Sport project “We are active” No. SRF-FAV-2020-1-0128

Klaipeda Ernestas Galvanauskas Vocational Training Centre implemented the sports project “WE ARE ACTIVE” No. SRF-FAV-2020-1-0128, funded by the Lithuanian Sports Support Fund.

This project was aimed at addressing the problem of inactivity at the Vocational Training Centre. The main objective of the project was to integrate physical activeness into the daily life of the community by organising physical activities, thus improving the health of individuals and their quality of life.

The project targeted several different target groups – young people, adults and people with disabilities or special learning needs. Not only students and staff of the Ernestas Galvanauskas Vocational Training Centre, but also Klaipeda residents living near the training centre and people from other organisations and educational institutions were invited to participate in the activities.

Project activities:

  • An information seminar to inform the community about more active and healthier lifestyles;
  • Training with TRX belts;
  • Nordic walking;
  • Physiotherapy exercises;
  • Street dance classes.

Project activities took place in several locations:

  • at the premises of the training centre at 67 Taikos Ave. and 5 Lelijų St., Klaipeda
  • Melnrage-Giruliai
  • at the Kretinga branch of the training centre, Sodziaus g. 1C, Kretingsodis

The project activities were implemented periodically from October 2021 to the end of June 2023. Due to the sufficiently long project implementation period, the variety of activities and the different locations where the activities took place, the project managed to involve more than 250 people living in the municipalities of Klaipeda city, Klaipeda district, Kretinga district, Skuodas district, Silute district and Palanga city. All the participants of the project activities gained valuable knowledge about healthy lifestyle and had the opportunity to engage in regular physical activity at least 2 times a week (some of the participants took part in several different activities at the same time, which means that they engaged in physical activities 4 times a week). Thanks to the regular contact with the trainers and the advice given by the trainers after the activities, the participants developed a natural habit of physical activity.

The activities raised awareness among community members and residents about the benefits and health effects of physical activity. The activities were also aimed at promoting not only physical activity itself, but also at motivating people to be physically active, to move more and to take responsibility for improving their health. It is hoped that after the activities funded by the project have ended, the participants will continue to participate in physical activities at least 2 times a week, feeling healthier and more motivated to be active in their leisure time.

  • Essenia UETP – University and Enterprise Training Partnership s.r.l. (Italy)
  • Fundación Laboral del Metal (Spain)
  • King Mindaugas vocational training centre (Lithuania)
  • Qualifications and Vocational Education and Training Development Centre (Lithuania)
  • Vilnius Jeruzale Labour Market Training Centre (Lithuania)

The main aim of the project is:

To develop descriptions of qualifications in different sectors to enable the development of internationally recognised qualifications required by today’s labour market.

Project results and impacts:

The project aims to improve the transition between vocational training and higher education and between different qualification levels, thus enabling learners and workers to pursue higher qualifications and implement lifelong learning.

A study on qualifications at European Qualifications Framework level V (5) carried out by the European Centre for the Development of Vocational Training (CEDEFOP) in 2014 showed that qualifications at this level play an important role in improving access to the labour market, ensuring career progression and the continuity of further learning in the transition to tertiary studies. Level V qualifications are particularly attractive for people with vocational training qualifications and work experience, as they offer the opportunity to upgrade qualifications in line with learning achievements in the workplace.

In Lithuania, as in some of the project partner countries, there were no programmes offering Level V qualifications, but there were plans to develop them. It was essential to define precisely what employers and learners want at this level, and what vocational training providers could offer in terms of sector specificities.

Outcomes:

The project was financed by the European Social Fund and the Lithuanian state budget.

Project duration: 11-07-2012 / 30-09-2015
Project budget: 787455,54 Eur

Project partners:

  • Klaipeda Ernestas Galvanauskas Vocational Training Centre;
  • Siauliai Labour Market Training Centre;
  • Panevezys Labour Market Training Centre;
  • Vilnius Jeruzale Labour Market Training Centre;
  • Vilnius Railway Transport and Business Services School.

The project developed 3 training tools for modular training programmes in the field of Transport:

  • Computer-based driver training tool;
  • Training tool “Train control on a real section of Lithuanian railway track”;
  • Interactive 3D graphics methodological tool.

The Computer-based driver training tool contains the most up-to-date and relevant course material with interactive images, video, Flash technology, animation with voice-over, self-check questions, exercises and tests to assess the learner’s knowledge.

The training tool “Train control on a real section of Lithuanian railway track” is designed to be used in conjunction with the freight train control simulator at the Vilnius Railway Transport and Business Services School. Train drivers learn how to drive on one of the most difficult railway track sections in Lithuania, Vaidotas-Kėdainiai. The training tool can be used to change weather conditions, seasons and time of day. It is also possible to create extreme hazardous situations in which the students develop their professional skills. The training tool is used for the qualification exam.

Interactive 3D graphics methodological tool for rail transport professionals can be used to learn the structure of train engines and the rules of train traffic signalling. It provides the opportunity to listen to audio and graphic explanations, read explanatory text, create tests and present them to students to test their knowledge. Textbooks with theoretical material and tests have also been developed.

After the introduction of the new teaching tools, pilot training sessions were organised. The training was attended by 117 pupils from the applicant and partner institutions.

The investment in the quality of the services provided has made the centres more economically viable, more attractive to consumers and more relevant to the needs of the national economy. An attractive learning environment has been created, innovative vocational training and learning tools have been introduced, and access to an advanced training system has been developed and ensured.

Project “Establishment of a practical training centre for the transport, warehousing and communications sector”

Klaipeda Ernestas Galvanauskas Vocational Training Centre has successfully implemented the project “Establishment of a practical training centre for transport, warehousing and communications sector”, project No VP3-2.2-ŠMM-13-V-03-026, under the Cohesion Enhancement Operational Programme for 2007-2013 Priority 2 “Quality and accessibility of public services: health, education and social infrastructure”, Measure VP3-2.2-ŠMM-13-V “Development of the vocational training infrastructure”.

The project has created the second practical training facility for transport workers in Lithuania, meeting the needs of today’s labour market.

The Autodrome has two sections for training special driving skills.

One of the modules is a J-shaped section: it starts with an incline, on which slippery road surfaces will be simulated with the help of special paints and water, and where a car will have to be manoeuvred around a bend if it is thrown and skids sideways. Water sprinklers create unexpected obstacles – which could be a car on the road – to avoid. This simulates driving conditions in the event of rain, packed snow or ice.

The second module is a straight section with a special plate at the halfway point that moves when a car drives over it. The car has to be steered, but it also has to avoid sudden obstacles, which are also represented by larger or smaller walls of water along this section.

The project involved:

  • The construction of a motor racing track and a logistics and storage centre;
  • Acquisition of practical training equipment for the SPMC;
  • Purchase of furniture necessary for the operation of the SPMC;
  • Acquisition of computer equipment necessary for the operation of the SPMC;
  • Acquisition of special purpose vehicles necessary for the operation of the SPMC.
